Starting in February, Rafael Nadal will become a new spokesmodel for Armani underwear. The 24-year-old Spanish tennis star was named the newest face of Emporio Armani Underwear back in December. Rafa will also model the Armani Jeans collection!

Tennis world number one Rafael Nadal is following in the footsteps of soccer players David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo to model men’s underwear for Italian designer Giorgio Armani.

The fashion house announced on Friday that the 24 year-old will be the global testimonial for Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans for the spring/summer 2011 collections.

The first campaign featuring Nadal will launch in February.

Both Ronaldo and Beckham have previously stripped down to their underwear for Emporio Armani, with Beckham even posing for billboards with his wife Victoria, of Spice Girls fame.

Really that’s all I have to say about these photos of Rafael Nadal modeling for Armani underwear. Here’s Giorgio Armani on why he chose Nadal for the campaign (yeah, because an explanation is definitely needed):

“Nadal is a real phenomenon, probably the best player who has stepped on a court, with awesome power and agility. I am delighted to see him play in every match. He is the ideal image because he represents a healthy and positive model for young people.”

Shirtless Nadal caresses wall, gets drenched in new Armani ad

Rafael Nadal has come a long way from sleeveless shirts and capris.

The world No. 1 recently signed to be the new face of Emporio Armani and Armani Jeans and made his commercial debut this week for the Italian clothier. As you'd expect, the clip is heavy on the abs and distant staring and light on actual shots of denim. There's also a lot of water involved. Like, a lot.

I'm a little disappointed Nadal didn't have a cheesy catchphrase at the end of the commercial like Andre Agassi's "image isn't everything" or whatever Elizabeth Taylor said at the end of that White Diamonds ad. There was ample opportunity for him to whisper something like "Armani. Vamos."

Nadal had already appeared in some print ads for the company, mimicking poses by another Armani endorser, Megan Fox.
