Post by: lamay on April 09, 2008, 01:25:25 AM: Volleyball is an Olympic team sport in which two teams of six active players, separated by a high net, each try to score points against one another by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules.

The complete rules of volleyball are extensive, but in general, play proceeds as follows: Points are scored by grounding the ball on the opponents' court, or when the opponent commits a fault. The first team to reach 25 points wins the set and the first team to win three sets wins the match. Teams can contact the ball no more than three times before the ball crosses the net, and consecutive contacts must be made by different players. The ball is usually played with the hands or arms, but players can legally strike or push (short contact) the ball with any part of the body. Spiking the ball is easy to hit and has a fair advantage that the other team will not be able to hit it.

Through time, volleyball has developed to involve common techniques of spiking, passing, blocking, and setting, as well as specialised player positions and offensive and defensive structures. Because many plays are made above the top of the net, vertical jumping is an athletic skill emphasised in volleyball. This article focuses on competitive indoor volleyball, which is carefully regulated and played indoors. Numerous variations of volleyball have developed for casual play, as has the Olympic spin-off sport beach volleyball.

The court
The game is played on a volleyball court 18 meters long and 9 meters wide, divided into two 9×9 m² halves by a one-meter wide net placed so that the top of the net is 2.43 meters above the center of the court for men's competition, and 2.24 meters for women's competition (these heights are varied for veterans and junior competitions).

There is a line 3 meters from and parallel to the net in each team court which is considered the "attack line". This "3 meter" (or 10 foot) line divides the court into "back row" and "front row" areas (also back court and front court). These are in turn divided into 3 areas each: these are numbered as follows, starting from area "1", which is the position of the serving player

The Federation Internationale de Volleyball or the FIVB is authorized to set rules for the beach volleyball at the international level. Some of the rules followed during the beach volleyball matches are-

The beach volleyball court is divided into two halves by a net. The length and width of the court are specified by the FIVB rule-book.

Each team is given three chances to send the ball over the net to the opponent's court.

The sand on the court has to be leveled. The depth of the sand on the court is also predetermined by the FIVB.

The volleyball court should be appropriately marked during the game.

The dimension of the net used to separate the two halves of the court should be as per the FIVB rule-book.

The size and weight of the ball used during the beach volleyball games are determined by the FIVB in its rule-book.

During the game, the players are not allowed to wear any such object, which can cause injury to other players.

Generally there are three sets in the beach volleyball game. The point system used during the game is the rally-point system.

To win a set, the team has to make a two point lead over the opponent.

Taga Davao ako Janet, Pero Tagbilaran ako pinanganak. Yes, Im a volleyball player :) Where in Cebu do you play? I also played in cebu when I was reviewing my board in engineering. Got I lot of volleyball friends in cebu since we often see each other in the national games during my colleges days.

Uban unta mi yeyeng adto national team pero wa musugot ako mama kay humanon gyud daw ako eskuwela kay mao ra daw ang bugtong kabilin niya. Ang hindayon ako kauban si Oliver Balse. Sayang maka represent unta ko team philippines ato. Hahay..... sige lang No regrets :)

yeah that was during his prime. karon usahay makita nako siya sa NCAA U.S. national college games sa UCLA nga mag coach. ma voang ko sa mga height middle blockers ang range sa height 6'7" to 6'9" nya mga batan-on pa kaayo. kanang mga 6'3" nga outside hitters maglisud na na ug sulod gawas kung paspas jud kaayo. mga 6'0 to 6'2" libero na lang. pero ako na notice bisan sila tag-as mas paspas jud ang duwa sa pilipinas. mas paspas ang lihuk ug mga play sa atoa. wala wala sad sila sa mga pinoy.

The Federation Internationale de Volleyball or the FIVB is authorized to set rules for the beach volleyball at the international level. Some of the rules followed during the beach volleyball matches are-

The beach volleyball court is divided into two halves by a net. The length and width of the court are specified by the FIVB rule-book.

Each team is given three chances to send the ball over the net to the opponent's court.

The sand on the court has to be leveled. The depth of the sand on the court is also predetermined by the FIVB.

The volleyball court should be appropriately marked during the game.

The dimension of the net used to separate the two halves of the court should be as per the FIVB rule-book.

The size and weight of the ball used during the beach volleyball games are determined by the FIVB in its rule-book.

During the game, the players are not allowed to wear any such object, which can cause injury to other players.

Generally there are three sets in the beach volleyball game. The point system used during the game is the rally-point system.

To win a set, the team has to make a two point lead over the opponent.

The Lady Spikers, who came back from two sets down to win Game 1, finished off the Lady Eagles with a scintillating 16-3 run capped by a block by Mika Reyes on Dzi Gervacio, one of five Ateneo players graduating which includes Aillysse Nacachi, Fille Cainglet, Gretchen Ho and setter Jem Ferrer.
“This title is sweet because this is the fruit of labor of my players and it’s also sweet because we were able to win for my graduating players,” said DLSU head coach Ramil de Jesus, which steered his team to its eighth overall title and its second three-peat.
Mika Reyes led the way with 16 points, including the title-clinching block on Gervacio while co-MVPs Abigail Marano and Ara Galang added 12 points apiece.
La Salle clawed back from 7-13 down in the second set behind Reyes, who chalked up four straight points that gave her team an 18-17 edge.
Alyssa valdez was the lone Ateneo player in double-digit scoring with 14 points.
