Denis Istomin was born in Orenburg, Russia, 30 years ago. At the age of 14, he was involved in a serious car crash that left him with 80 stitches, cost him three months in hospital, and prevented him from playing tennis for two years.

The Australian Open 2017 has produced another shocker and meet the giant-killer that beat Novak Djokovic – Denis Istomin who is coached by his mum and has bad eyesight. Istomin defied his lowly ranking to defeat the 12-time Grand Slam winner 7-6, 5-7, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 in a thrilling five-set match.
