Title: Appreciate a Nurse
Post by: OMG on August 11, 2010, 12:26:20 PM
Somewhere right now a NURSE is getting yelled at for being late with medications, holding their bladder because they have been so busy they can't pee. Right now a nurse is being puked, bled, peed, pooped on, punched or stabbed and is missing their family while taking care of yours. For the time it took to read this, NURSES all over the world... are saving lives. Appreciate a Nurse!

so come on people, be very proud of your job and do not be affected if someone's gonna laugh or put a bad image with the kind of job you have especially in the nursing field because we earn and work for it in a decent way no matter what.

As a kid, hated nurses. They'd remove my pants and stick Xlarge, sharp needles on my bottom. In my late teens, mood changed. But 'twas only when living in Mla and o/seas that learned to love them. Oh, how me missed those homecomings. Those naughty student nurses lodging our place in Cebu "nursing" me. :(

we lived next to a hospital building and everytime one of my younger brothers or sisters got sick, it was an easy access for all of us because we have befriended all the nurses already when we were young.

In Cebu, some private hosp had VIP wards. Cheaper than checking in to a hotel as tax free.
As a young bachelor, sometimes, during Cebu sojourns, pretended to be sick, admitted in, and oh! how those naughty nurses loved to "nurse" that "sick" Australianong poyai back to health. Hehehe. Dunno if still like that nowadays. :) ;)

Does this hosp have a VIP ward? Where I could be admitted on a fake illness and have the Lomilomi-Hieros Gamos treatment with a lovely young nurse? :) ;)

Sa Pinas lang siguro ang luoy. That's why many become nurse to take advantage of the global shortage. Unfortunately, this has lead to a glut in the nursing market. No realistic likelihood that the situation will change anytime soon.
The prediction that things will improve in 2 yrs is a gloomy forecast. The current focus of migration intake is on refugees/asylum seekers which has become a nightmare for many rich countries. :) ;)

Normally, a patient during renal transplant is confined only a fortnight. But I wasn't discharged until after 7 weeks. 'coz those nurses loved me so much they wanted me to stay long. Not to mention that, 11 months later, I was again confined for 1 month. They just couldn't get enough of me.
Huhuhu, what a miserable life I had! :'(

*****

Heard that many nurses in the Phil are laid off. There's a glut in the nursing market worldwide.
Many nurses become call center operators [cco] to take advantage of the shortage of cco in the Phil as a result of outsourcing. Companies are taking advantage of the cheap labour in the Phil. :) ;)

Title: Are Nurses Competitive? Seriously?!
Post by: juan on January 24, 2012, 12:39:55 AM
As nurses, we face tough competition before we step foot into our first nursing school class.  There is fierce competition just getting the honor of a seat in a nursing school.  These seats often require academic prowess and experience to acquire.  Think about this statistic:  “U.S. nursing schools turned away 52,115 qualified applicants from baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs in 2010 due to insufficient number of faculty, clinical sites, classroom space, clinical preceptors, and budget constraints1“.  With this statistic, competition is inevitable!  But you worked hard and earned one of those coveted seats – on your own terms!

Okay, you made it into nursing school, worked you way through and are now a registered nurse.  Can you stop being competitive now?  I guess not.  “Research shows that 60% of new graduates leave their first position within six months because of some form of horizontal hostility2”. “Horizontal hostility” sounds a lot like competition to me!

Other than horizontal hostility, I was curious what some other synonyms of “competitive” are.  I found the following: “Aggressive, ambitious, antagonistic, at odds, combative, competing, cutthroat, dog-eat-dog, emulous, killer instinct, killer, opposing, rival, streetwise, vying3”.

None of these phrases - in particular “cutthroat”, “dog-eat-dog” and “killer” - bring out warm and fuzzy visions in my mind!  Can we compete without being too competitive, and frankly, mean to our peers?  I say, “ABSOLUTELY”!

First, realize that nice guys don’t necessarily finish last!

Set Your Own Goals:  Have short-term and long-term goals in mind and stick with those goals.  Focus on the goals and not how to achieve them in a devious or quick manner.  Tend to the tasks you must perform as an individual to achieve your dreams.

Work Hard to Achieve Those Goals:  Reaching your individualized goals does not mean you have to plot against your peers or compete in a negative fashion.  Your diligence, hard work, academic record, and ethics speak for themselves.

Don't Step on Others To Get Ahead:  You will enjoy reaching each of your goals along the way when you realize you did so on your own terms and without unnecessarily harming others.  The fashion in which you have built your reputation and name IS your competitive edge!

Be A MENTOR - Not a RIVAL:  We are all in this together.  If you see a peer struggling, don’t look at them like a lion looks at a weak antelope!  Do not be one of those "nurses who eat their young".  Be a mentor, not a lion!

It is NOT Just About Achieving Your Goals That Matter, But How You Get There.  Know that in the end you will get where you are going and be respected in the process.  Don’t compromise your values, your social status, or your reputation to get what you want.  Instead, use your individual talents, hard work and diligence, and let them be your guideposts to success!

So I heard. Gone are the times when even Pinoy docs enrolled in nursing school to take advantage of the global shortage of nurses. A glut in the nursing market now exists and no realistic likelihood that the situation will improve anytime soon.
Focus is shifted on courses leading to energy management/engineering due to the incipient energy crisis. One such relatively new course is Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering – an offshoot of electricl engineering. In simple English, it is a study on harnessing solar power and storing into some kinda battery – photovoltaic cells. Still at its infant stage it’s drawing strong attraction among young hi-sch grads. A tough course, though.
One reason me looking for a talented young Fil wife so could encourage her to enroll in this course. Later on, earn truckloads of cash for me to bring into my next life.  ;D ;)

But your friend doc’s twisted mind interpret this as,
i heard ur latest 'lingaw' is offering money/scholarships to young Filipino women in exchange for a night (or nights) with you for whatever absurd plans and crap that you're very desperate of. LOL
thanks for the entertainment (yes old man, you!) and keep 'em coming. ;D ;D ;D

It’s her arrogance, not so much her age, which gets me so pissed. Perhaps, she’s a somebody within a small Bohol circle. But outside that circle, she’s just a nobody. Who does she think she is? ??? Dictating her preferences to Dawg and me.
Common to many Pinoy docs. As I said, I’ve got doc relatives like that. Called them arrogant a$$holes.

Puspusan na ang pagpapakilala ni Cherrie Mae Maderazo Penales ang Boholana Nurse and who grew up in Pagadian City, nag training sa Australia for 3 months at proud ang kanyang parents na ibinalita sa atin na nakapasa din bilang isang Registered Nurse na sa Australia.

Sya ngayon ang ehemplo na paano makakita ng work bilang nurse sa Australia by undergoing a 3 month training by 2 professional nurses and workers recognized by the Australian Government and then you can have your license to work.

She was recently featured on News 5 and you can click the link below to watch her interview:

please bear in mind that this was her first interview, kaya medyo may dalang kaba, one take lang yata pero professional na ang dating, kahit ako, sometimes, i forget how to breath in and breath out!

Congratulations again, Cherrie Mae, we are so proud of you.
