For me, brought into focus with a much sharper picture of Philippine cultural values and attitudes. Made me understand better why I did what I did when happened to me.
Was so difficult to say 'no' ... And the consequences when finally said 'no'.
The common Bisaya saying, "Kanang imong utang namo, di na kabayran og sapi! Kai kon di pa tungod namo, di ka maka-abroad". Translated into simple English, the o/s Pinoy is perpetually indebted to them -- a lifetime bondage. Should the o/s Pinoy break the chain of cruel "obligations" that disadvantaged him, he will be ostracized.
Just woke up from a dream about Manila. But wasn't really Manila. Just some garbled scenes. Dunno which ones were real and which ones weren't.
