He wants to be the one.
This guy asks this question no matter how painful the answers might be, because he wants to gauge whether he's already the one that you'd want for the rest of your life. So is he just another one of those guys or is the search finally over? These are the things that he would like to give answers to.
He's asking out of curiosity.
Guys can be so curious at times that they don't even realize that they're bordering tactlessness. He may be asking you this question because he wants to know whether he slept with more women! Or he's just curious about how honest you could get with him.
He needs to gauge what makes you tick.

So don't even bother to deny the rumors if they're really true - you'll just be ruined in the process. Just come clean and he'll even respect you for that.
