12 Reasons for Pain at Back: The human back is usually divided into three main segments:-

    * upper back.

    * mid back.

    * lower back

People are usually most prone to lower back pain. Let us look at the top 10 reasons for issues with the back.

1. Injury:-

Most people are known to suffer from back pain after an injury. A bad fall, a car accident, a sports related injury et. can leave the spinal cord in a shock causing it to ache.

Also, post an injury, the tension in the back muscles is increased causing the to compress and cause discomfort.

2. Herniated Disc:-

Herniated or bulged discs can lead to severe back pain. The spinal vertebrae are separated by fluid filled sacs called discs. When these discs bulge, they press against adjacent nerves causing excruciating pain.

3. Abnormalities:-

Sometimes, a pain in the abdomen, chest and pelvis also can be experienced in the back. Especially people who suffer from gastric problems also experience pain in the upper back.

This pain is also known as referred pain.

4. Pregnancy:-

Most women are prone to lower back pain during pregnancy. Being overweight can cause the ligaments in the pelvic region to stretch causing back pain.

Also, it adds to an extra burden on the lower back and can also irritate nerves.

5. Surgeries:-

People who undergo surgeries (like spinal stenosis, spinal fusion, cesarean) for correcting spinal conditions are known to experience severe pain during the time of recovery.

The complicated surgery techniques can take a huge toll on the back causing a lot of discomfort before attaining relief.

6. Stress:-

A very subtle but serious cause of back pain is stress. Stressing and over anxiety can lay a huge stress on the brain and disrupt its functioning.

Improper brain function can deprive oxygen and blood supply to the back and lead to psychosomatic back pain.

7. Posture:-

Improper standing, sleeping and sitting postures are also hugely responsible for early onset of pain. The importance of a proper posture is being neglected and slouched positions while sitting, improper mattresses and bad standing techniques can all lead to upper back pain.

8. Bad Lifting techniques:-

Most people do not know the proper lifting technique. Many of us bend at our waists in order to pick something off the floor, one reason that many people suffer from back pain at a very early age.

9. Sedentary Work:-

With the advent of technology and increased use of computers at work, many of us remain glued to our desks which can harm the back in the long run.

Lack of physicality in work is also a major cause of pain at back.

10. Exercise:-

Exercises are necessary for maintaining a proper back. But, exercising without proper guidance and knowledge would backfire and cause back pain.

Sometimes, over exercising can also be harmful to the back.

Lack of proper warm up before exercising is also a reason.

11. Bag Packs:-

If you observe the bag packs of today's students, you will find that fashion has led to an improper weight placement on the back. These new trendy bags often place an over weight on the back placing a lot of strain on the muscles.

12. Nerve Irritation:-

One of the major reasons for radiating pain in the lower back region is the irritation of the sciatic nerve. Remaining seated for extended periods of time can lay sever pressure on the sciatic nerve causing it to compress and get irritated.

An irritated sciatic nerve causes immense lower back pain.
