Newly crowned Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes's reign could end in disgrace in just a few hours after apparent fraud allegations have emerged.

According to Argentine daily Infobae and other Angolan media outlets, the organizer of the the pageant that crowned her Miss Angola in her home country, a man by the name of Charles Mukano, apparently? falsified the beauty's documentation so that she could participate in the prestigious event. Meet the New Miss Universe Leila Lopes

Leila Lopes -- Miss Angola -- was crowned Miss Universe in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Monday night, beating out 88 other beauties in the 60th anniversary of the world's biggest beauty pageant.

Lopes, 25, is the first Angola native to capture the crown -- and strives to help her native land leave behind its history of war and poverty; she's also dedicated to fighting HIV worldwide.

"I've worked with various social causes. I work with poor kids, I work in the fight against HIV. I work to protect the elderly and I have to do everything that my country needs," Lopes told reporters. "I think now as Miss Universe I will be able to do much more."

The stunner was poised during the Q&A period of the show (broadcast live on NBC and hosted by Bravo's Andy Cohen and Natalie Morales, with veteran TV anchor Connie Chung and Real Housewives' Adrienne Maloof among the celebrity judges) -- and said there's not a thing she'd change about her physical appearance.

"Thank God I'm very satisfied with the way God created me and I wouldn't change a thing," she said. "I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life."

Lopes' near-rivals included first runner up Olesia Stefanko (Miss Ukraine), and second runner-up Priscilla Machado.

California's Miss USA Alyssa Campanella did not rank in the top five; an American has not been named Miss Universe since Brook Lee in 1997.

“I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point.” - Oprah Winfrey

25-year-old Leila Lopes is not only the 2011 Miss Universe but she is the first Angolian contestant to have landed her country on the map of the world-renowned pageant.

Born in Benguela province and to Cape Verdean parents, Leila is a business management student in United Kingdom. She, however, had to put her studies on hold after she was crowned Miss Angola 2011, as reported by Agencia AngolaPress.

What she said in her VTR for the “Getting to Know the Top 10” segment, which was aired during the pageant held Sept. 13 at the CrediCard Hall in Sao Paulo, Brazil, has apparently materialized.

“I hope I can see myself as Miss Universe so I can tell that to my children,” she said.

She added, “I also want to finish my undergraduate [degree]. I want to do masters in Business Management in order to become a successful businesswoman.”

A PR Newswire release stated that Leila has always been a fan of beauty pageants and has developed particular interest in reading as well as cosmetics.

She may well have showed that she’s not just a beauty queen who is recognized for her looks and charisma, but someone who supports worthy causes. Leila has rallied behind improving the welfare of deprived children as well as fighting against the proliferation of HIV/AIDS, the Agencia AngolaPress stated in a separate article.

A Sao Paulo resident deemed Leila’s achievement as a “well-deserved” one.

“We were cheering for her all along. Her smile and her friendliness was what set her apart from the others. She also answered her question very well, that likely helped her a lot,” 36-year-old Carolina Rocha was quoted by an Associated Press article as saying.

Leila follows the reign of last year’s Miss Universe, Ximena Navarrete of Mexico.
