For most of the country, the Oscars are just a one-night affair: a few hours of glamorous gowns, tearful acceptance speeches, and cheers for the biggest and best movies of the past 12 months. For Hollywood, though, the excitement starts long before -- and ends long after -- the Sunday night telecast.

PHOTOS: What the stars wore to the 2013 Oscars
This year's Academy Awards, held on Feb. 24 and hosted by Ted creator Seth MacFarlane, were no exception. Us Weekly has the inside scoop on what went down behind the scenes before, during, and after Hollywood's most glamorous night, from how the stars got ready at home to where (and with whom!) they partied the night away. Check out the extended timeline below!

6:59 p.m. Jump for joy! Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhane Wallis, the youngest Best Actress nominee in Oscars history, hops playfully on one foot amid a big group at the Women in Film Pre-Oscar Cocktail Party at L.A. eatery Fig & Olive, hosted by Perrier Jouet, MAC Cosmetics, and MaxMara.

7:16 p.m. Octavia Spencer takes the mic at Fig & Olive to talk about the Women in Film organization and its many trailblazers. She jokingly calls herself "barely Halle" -- a cute play on Oscar winner Halle Berry's name.

7:40 p.m. Doting dad-to-be! Mario Lopez rubs the belly of his pregnant wife, Courtney Mazza, at the QVC Red Carpet Style Party at the Four Seasons Hotel.

8:53 p.m. Meanwhile, at the WME (William Morris Endeavor) shindig at Ari Emanuel's home in L.A.'s Brentwood neighborhood, all eyes are on supermodel Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady as they descend the stairs together like Hollywood royalty.

9:28 p.m. Bromance alert! Taylor Lautner and Patrick Schwarzenegger -- both of whom were once linked to Taylor Swift -- are inseparable at the WME bash, where they're spotted hanging out by a table full of Southern food.

Best Veronica Lake Hair, and the award goes to: Reese Witherspoon, The mom of three (and 2006 Best Actress winner) told E!'s Ryan Seacrest the secret to her amazing, lustrous Old Hollywood locks: giving birth! Hormone changes mean thicker hair, but, as she bemoaned, the change is temporary.

Best Short Hair, and the award goes to: Charlize Theron move over, Anne Hathaway. There's a new pixie in town and it's simply a cut above. The Oscar winner, rocking her newly platinum short 'do and a crisp Dior Haute Couture gown, was a vision in white.

Best Updo, and the award goes to: Amy Adams Pure perfection. The nominated actress Mastered the red carpet in a chic bouffant and low bun, created by hairstylist Laini Reeves, that was a little retro, a little modern, and a lot gorgeous.

Best Red Lips, and the award goes to: Jessica Chastain, The Zero Dark Thirty redhead has never looked better on the red carpet as she channeled Old Hollywood with a sexy, standout YSL blue-red out.

Best Cat Eyes, and the award goes to: Adele, a pro at retro makeup, the Best Song winner hit the Oscars sporting dramatic, flawless cat-eyes. Meownificent!

Best Smoky Eyes, and the award goes to: Kerry Washington, the Django Unchained actress kept her makeup fresh and natural to make her smoky eyes — a gorgeous blend of rose gold, taupe, coffee, and pink — really pop. Well done!

Best Natural Look, and the award goes to: Jennifer Garner, a slew of stars opted to go for the new natural look at the Oscars, but Ben Affleck's wife absolutely nailed the trend with her neutral but rich makeup.

Best Glow, and the award goes to: Seth MacFarlane, Oscar host MacFarlane had more screen time than any other star on Sunday night, so it's no wonder he made sure his face was in tip-top shape for the telecast. His groomer Diane Schmidke tells Us Weekly he received the The Art of Shaving The Royal Shave (a facial and shave rolled into one treatment) the morning of the show.

Best Manicure, and the award goes to: Anne Hathaway, Lucky girl! Not only did the Les Miserables beauty walk away with a Best Supporting Actress win, she also gets our vote for best nail art of the night. On her baby pink nails (which matched her Prada dress) were, sweetly, the initials of her grandmother's name.

Beauty MVP, and the award goes to: Jennifer Lawrence, no fair that the Silver Linings Star gets to win her first Oscar, stumble her way to the podium in the most adorable way, deliver a thoroughly endearing speech, AND win our award for best overall look. Those eyes, that hair, that pout! Simply stunning.
