It’s not always about winning. It’s about doing your best.

The fight happened at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where Mayweather had fought 14 times before. But despite it being Mayweather’s home ground, the ground was chanting Pacquiao’s name and booing Mayweather, recognising that he was the one going all out for the knockout victory.

Play to your strengths, not your opponent’s

Mayweather won because he played to his strengths - defence, accuracy and a long reach. He refused to get into a slugfest with Pacquiao and went for the clever tactic instead - a points victory.

Work hard, but work smart

Pacquiao may have attempted more of the Hollywood punches, but Mayweather outboxed his opponent, landing 435 hits to Pacquiao’s 429. Crucially, he landed more of his punches and this is gave him the strategic victory.

People will put you down. Rise above it.

HBO journalist/interviewer Max Kellerman has been blasted for his patronising post-match interview with Manny Pacquiao. The Filipino boxer may not have won the fight, but he won a lot of support from fight fans for the honest and straightforward way he replied Kellerman.

Never, ever take anything for granted

Post-match, Pacquiao said he thought he had won the fight. He hadn’t. He had thrown fewer punches and fewer punches connected. Would he have been more aggressive in the closing rounds had he known this?
