What is Airsoft?
Airsoft is a Military Simulation game (”MilSim”), also referred to as War Games, where two or more teams participating in realistic tactical, combat or military simulation missions, compete with each other to achieve a military objective outlined in the game scenario. Scenarios may include something as simple as “Last Man Standing” where teams battle each other until one man remains to something more complex and strategic like Base Defense, Base Attack, Search and Destroy or other similar situation encountered usually at the squad level. “Capture the Flag”, ”God Save the Queen”, ”Hostage Taking”, ”VIP Protection”, ”Tears of the Sun”, are some of the more common and dramatic milsim scenario. “TacSim” refers to tactical simulation or adaption of the techniques or style employed by special military or police units such as SWAT.
What makes the game exciting is the use of functional & realistic gun replicas that fires 6mm or 8mm plastic pellets. From Revolvers to Machine Pistols, Light to Heavy Machine Guns, Machine Pistols to Bolt Action Sniper Rifles, almost all major gun models are being faithfully copied by an airsoft gun. Some can be field stripped quite close to the real thing. Examples are: Glocks, 1911, Beretta, Ruger, Para Ordnance, STTI, Sigs, Desert Eagles, AK47, AKS74U, SLR, RPK, Dragunov, M14, M1A1 Thompson, M16, M4, MP5, M249, L85, Steyr AUG, Sig551, Sig552, HK416, XM8, FAMAS, P90, M24, etc. and the list goes on much further.
Even battle dress uniform(bdu), gears, and equipment that imitate real-life counterparts, such as those used by elite military units from various countries are used by airsoft players. Realistic grenade launchers, WWII German Hand Grenades & claymore mines, among others are also used. Some teams/gamesites have bunkers, foxholes, military vehicles, and other military structures to make the game more appealing. But this combat simulation game can be played just about anywhere. A forest, vacant lot, in & around buildings, warehouses or any specially built battlefield.
