DIFFERENTIATE SET FROM SIT
« on: May 28, 2008, 05:10:31 AM »
SIT is an intransitive verb and therefore doesn't have a direct object

Example.  Please sit down.

Note: Down is used as an adverb here

SET is a transitive verb and therefore has a direct object.

Example: Please set the table.

PS:

I learned this from my basic English grammar class
I never let schooling interfere with my education ..

In mathematics, a Set is a grouping of related objects. So "set" can also be a noun.
