JUST THE BEGINNING?: By now, analysts the world over have been trying
to outdo one another in trying to explain what happened to US
companies Leman Brothers and Merril Lynch and American International
Group, Inc. (AiG), both of which went bankrupt this week despite
retaining billions of dollars in funds and assets.
Many are saying in fact that the worst is over, and that the efforts
of the Bush Administration to arrest the economic decline of the most
powerful nation on earth is now starting to pay off.
But nothing, to use a cliché, is farthest from the truth. The
bankruptcy of Leman Brothers and Merril Lynch is just the beginning of
more economic woes for the United States of America, and for the rest
of the world.
It is a harbinger and a clear portent of more grim downfalls and
shutdowns and economic degeneration the world over in the days to come.
Why? Whether you believe me or not, what is happening now actually
constitutes the curse of "hardships, difficulties and confusion, and
failures in everything we do", which God in Deuteronomy 28:15 to 68 of
the Bible promised to a people that turned their backs on Him.
Unless we learn that these "hardships, difficulties and confusion and
failures in everything we do" came from God's wrath upon a people who
no longer follow and heed His commands, laws and decrees, and
therefore, seek a solution that is also from God, there is no way but
down, not up, for all of us in this planet.
The solution is provided for, among others, by 2 Chronicles 7:14 of
the Bible, which says: "If my people, who are called by my name, will
humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their
wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal
their land."
There is only one way to heal this world, and we should all endeavor
to follow that way.
