Teammate says Ohno will retire after Vancouver Games end

By Martin Rogers

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Apolo Anton Ohno has kept information on his post-Vancouver future closer to his chest than any of his Winter Olympic medals, but finally it appears his golden career is about to end.

Ohno's Team USA colleague Simon Cho let things slip on Thursday afternoon, revealing by Twitter that the seven-time medalist is set to hang up his skates after the Games.

"Today was officially the last ice practice for Apolo Ohno," wrote Cho. "I'm honored to be included in the last chapter of his competitive skating career."

Cho and Ohno will be part of the American team in the 5,000-meter relay on Friday night, in what now seems certain to be Ohno's final race. He will also compete in the 500 earlier that night.

Ohno himself has not commented publicly on his plans and isn't expected to do so until after he wraps up competition on Friday night. Rumors surrounding his impending retirement have been circulating at the Pacific Coliseum since the start of the short-track competition.
