DOJ chief: Lacson spotted in Rome, may be hiding in Europe
GMANews.TV - Wednesday, March 17

Opposition Senator Panfilo Lacson, in hiding because of his supposed involvement in the killing of publicist Salvador "Bubby" Dacer and driver Emmanuel Corbito in November 2000, has been sighted in Italy, Justice Secretary Alberto Agra said Tuesday.

Agra told GMANews.TV that reports reaching him from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) confirmed that Lacson was seen in Rome. He was initially spotted in Hong Kong after fleeing the country in January. "From Hong Kong, he might have gone through Rome, although we have yet to verify how long he stayed there. We also do not know his exact whereabouts at the moment," Agra said in a phone. The justice chief, however, added that there is strong reason to believe that Lacson "may be hiding somewhere in Europe" based on the information he got from the Interpol. Lacson left the country last January 5 on a flight bound for Hong Kong to supposedly avoid "harassment" from the Arroyo administration in the light of double murder charges filed against him in connection with the Dacer-Corbito case. Lacson has also been placed on the Interpol "red notice" list of wanted persons, which allows foreign police authorities from 188 member-states — including Italy — to arrest him based on their discretion.
