Mikey disqualification as party-list bet sought
GMANews.TV - Thursday, March 25

Two left-leaning lawmakers on Thursday moved for the disqualification of presidential son Mikey Arroyo as nominee for a party-list group representing tricycle drivers and security guards.

In a seven-page petition, Bayan Muna Rep. Satur Ocampo and Gabriela Rep. Liza Maza asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to disqualify Mikey, the incumbent representative of Pampanga's second district, as the nominee of Ang Galing Pinoy or any other party-list group for a congressional seat.

"[Mikey] cannot, by any stretch of imagination, be considered a member of the marginalized sector and no logic can ever justify his nomination to represent Ang Galing Pinoy or any party-list for that matter," the petition read.

Both Ocampo and Maza are running for senator in the May 10 elections under the Nacionalista Party (NP) banner.

The two lawmakers questioned how Mikey, as a member of the First Family, could represent tricycle drivers and security guards, which are purportedly the members of Ang Galing Pinoy.

Mikey is also the chairman of the House energy committee and has a net worth of P99.2 million as reflected in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) for 2008, the militant lawmakers pointed out.

As of posting time, Mikey has not responded to calls made and a text message sent by GMANews.TV

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is seeking to replace Mikey as representative of Pampanga's second district.

Malacañang on Wednesday defended the nomination of Mikey, saying it does not violate the Constitution. – Johanna Camille Sisante, KBK, GMANews.TV
