Food Combining For Health & Bridal Weight Loss
By Janice Walker Pinnington

If your wedding day is fast approaching, then bridal weight loss may be top of mind. You will want to look and feel your best, and one way to safely reduce weight while increasing your health is to use a method called food combining when planning your meals.

Undigested food can get stuck in your intestinal track and cause bloating, stomach upset, and toxic by-products. A good bridal weight loss plan can fix this.

It is no wonder that antacid products are now a billion dollar a year industry. But combating this problem can be as easy as 1,2,3. So throw away those old bottles of chewable and liquid antacids...food combining will get your system back on track fast!

You may have heard it before - "don't eat a baked potato with your steak". That's because your body produces enzymes to break down food. With protein, your stomach produces acidic enzymes while starchy foods require alkaline enzymes.

When the two are mixed together, they neutralize each other out which reduces the effectiveness of digestion. In turn, this can cause gas, discomfort, and most importantly, a reduction in the absorption of important nutrients. In addition, undigested and rotting food becomes stored as fat leaving a person feeling sluggish and tired.

So how do we combine our food for most effective digestion and effective bridal weight loss?

1) Eat Fruit Alone - Fruit is best eaten first thing in the morning, on its own, or within 1-2 hours of eating any other food. Fruit is absorbed quickly into the system so nutrient uptake is optimal when eating it on its own.

2) Eat Protein Alone or with Vegetables, Never with Starch - The high water content of vegetables aids the digestive system and works well in both an acidic or alkaline environment. The added fiber helps to move the non-fiber protein more rapidly through the body aiding in quicker and more efficient digestion.

3) Eat Starches Alone or with Vegetables - Since vegetables do not require their own digestive juices, they can be digested in the alkaline environment required by starches. For example, you can eat a baked potato with a salad, or a pasta dish with steamed mixed vegetables, reflecting a properly combined meal.

If you drink water, tea, juice, or any other beverage with your meal, it is best to wait at least 1 hour before or after eating to consume. This will help to avoid diluting your enzymes which can make them less effective in the digestive process.

Making a few simple changes can make a world of difference in how you feel and help with bridal weight loss.

Next time you suffer from an upset stomach, try food combining to see how effective it can be.
